Early in his career as a surgical trainee, Professor Christophe Mathoulin MD, FMH was the recipient of the prestigious gold medal award at the Hôpitaux de Paris, which earned him the opportunity to join the renowned practice of Professor Thierry Judet. He transitioned to the department of orthopaedic surgery at the Tenon hospital from 1987 to 2002 under the leadership of Professor Thierry Judet, where he began as chief resident and later joined the faculty for the next 15 years. In 1988, he also became a member of the Institut de la Main, a premier hand center in Europe developed by Professor Raoul Tubiana and Professor Alain Gilbert. He currently remains as an Honorary Lifetime Vice-President of Institut de la Main. Professor Mathoulin is an Orthopaedic surgeon with specialization in hand/upper extremity surgery and microsurgery. He is an internationally recognized specialist in wrist surgery, and has developed techniques for minimally invasive surgery, wrist arthroscopy and microsurgical vascular transfers. He is recognized as a prominent leader in the field with contributions through his clinical experience, research, lectures, and publications on wrist surgery. He has delivered more than a thousand lectures, has performed hundreds of live attended and recorded surgeries, has contributed to more than 300 peer-reviewed publications, and has served as chairman for more than 200 national and international specialty meetings. He is the founder of the European Wrist Arthroscopy Society (EWAS), the first international society dedicated to teaching and research dedicated to wrist arthroscopy. This society continued to evolve to become the International Wrist Arthroscopy Society (IWAS), and Prof. Mathoulin is currently an Honorary Lifetime President and Founder of IWAS. As Founding-President of the International Wrist Centers (IWC) and IRCAD-IWC, he is currently active in IRCAD-IWC teaching (wrist arthroscopy, elbow arthroscopy and ultrasound guided procedures) at the multiple prestigious IRCAD centers worldwide. These include France, Taiwan, Brazil, Rwanda, China, USA, and India. Prof. Christophe Mathoulin declares no conflict of interest.
