What anatomy has made us understand in scapholunate dissociation: role of arthroscopy

Since the advent of wrist arthroscopy, the understanding of the stability of the scapholunate couple has been turned upside down. Indeed, it has become evident that the extrinsic ligaments play an essential stabilizing role, and that without their associated damage to the intrinsic ligaments, we cannot obtain dynamic or static scapholunate instability. From this new understanding come different techniques of arthroscopic repairs, all following the principle of arthroscopic dorsal scapholunate repair described for more than 10 years, but now allowing us to almost completely push back the indications for open repair.
